School Closure Summer Term 2019/20

School Closure.jpg

This is Week 9 (the worksheets will say Week 8 - they weren't set over half term)

(Commences Monday 1st June 2020).

Yr6 return to school this week. The few that are at home need to continue with the work set on the website. The work needs to be completed please.

Nine sets of printed work was not collected last week. We will no longer be able to print work unless an adult calls the school on Monday and comes in to collect it.

Guillemont Parent/Carers Certificates available for you to use - see 'Summer Term Additional Things'.

Mrs Waldron (SENCo) has a sheet that some might find helpful if your child(ren) finds organisation a problem. Click here. Its call 'Now Next'. Mrs Waldron has also produced a social story for children that are anxious about returning to school. Click here for a copy.

Mrs Helen Smith (ELSA) will be available by phone between 9am and 12pm every week day. Her priority will be for contact with the children she usually works with. If parents or carers require help, please contact Mrs Smith between 1pm and 3pm. The number to call is 07563384044. Please be patient and please only call at the appropriate time. With more than 100 children returning to school this week, she will continue to be available but will also be calling children at school that need additional emotional support.

The school office is open for calls between 8am and 4.30pm from this week onwards. Please call 01252 666846. You can also leave a message or email: adminoffice@guillemont-jun.hants.sch.uk

We have set work to ensure there is enough for everyone to do. There is an expectation that children attempt the work. It has been pitched at an approriate level. If you child is having difficulty, please call the school and ask for a message to be given to your child's class teacher. Most teachers are back in school from Monday and so will have less time to call children at home.

If you need timetable to help organise the day, we suggest you use the one published previously. For a copy, click here.

Link to BBC Bitesize website. It is useful, but teachers would like children to prioritise the work they have set.

Summer Term Work Additional Things:

Foundation Subject work:

The Art and D&T activities may need you to do some preparation work first... getting the bits so perhaps best done later in the week.

Art: Miss Isaac has set you two art activities this week. There's an online drawing tutorials for you to join in with. Click here. The second art task is to make a robot sculpture. Click here. They are safe sites and ok to accept cookies but get an adult to check first.

D&T: Miss Isaac has also set you a few challenges this week. There a competition for you and your family. Click here. The prize could be a certificate - click here. There is also a STEM challenge. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Click here.

French: Ms Dorset has set this for you to try. Click here.

Geography: Miss Keep has set you a project this week. It's about climate changeIt will help you think about the impact of human activity on the Earth, and how this can lead to climate change. You can discover what can be done to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air, which is warming up our world. Click here.

Library: Click here for this week's copy of First News.

Mindfullness: Mrs Smith has given you something to to try every day for a few minutes. Click here.

Music: Mrs Gray has modified this week's Hampshire Music Service task so that it can be done by all children between 6 and 11 years of age. Its called 'You Got Rhythm'. Click here. Older people can also have a go!

SCARF: 2020 Covid-19 Time Capsul. Something to keep for the future. Click here. This is something to do over several weeks.

Every Friday we held an assembly to present certificates. We have modified the template so you [parents and carers] can use it if you wish. Click here for a copy. You can write whatever you wish, hopefully to motivate your child(ren).

With most teacher back at school from Monday, calling home will be difficult. However, we will try to maintain contact - a different member of staff will try to call home. The school will endeavour to set MyMaths, Bug Club and Purple Mash work. This will be set by a teachers for a year group.. Please encourage children to use the 'Class Blog' on Purple Mash as these will be checked by class teachers. It is likely that the Yr6 bloggs will not be checked weekly.

The teachers would appreciate you encouraging children to read for 10 minutes every day. It would be good if some one could read to them as well. Research shows that a male role model has a very positive effect! Additionally, children need to practice the times tables 1s to 12s. The Government expects all children to be able to recall multiplication facts up to 12 x12 by the end of Yr4. Children in Yr3 should know their 1s, 2s, 5s,10s, 4s, 8s and 3s by the end of the school year. The recommended sequence to learn times tables is: 2s, 5s, 10s, 4s, 8s, 3s, 6s, 9s, 7s, 11s and 12s. Remember that 1 x anything is itself and 0 x anything is always 0.

Mr Cooper suggests that that children work as independently  as they can on a daily  'I See Maths' video (they know this scheme from school) before you start the set work on the left with them. Click here to get to the' I See Maths' website and then select the Y3 & Y4 or the Y5 & Y6 video for the day.

Class EW: Mrs Waldron and Miss Palmer would like the children to practice their language and vocabulary skills. Click here for the 'Speed Link' website. Click here for 'Thinking Talking' website.
