Upper school children studied adventure game texts in the Spring 2010 term. These are stories where the reader decides how the plot will develop by being given decisions to make within the text.
Children read an example of an adventure game text, making collective decisions on how to proceed, justifying their reasoning and discussing tactics. Then, as a whole class, they wrote the opening chapter of their own adventure game text during a shared writing session led by their teacher. Finally, they worked in independent pairs to each write a chapter on screen for the class story. This was formatted with hyperlinks to create an interactive text where you take the decisions that affect the outcome. Read it here!
