This booklet is designed so that parents and carers can support their child with learning their multplication
bonds (times tables and multiplication facts). The idea is simple; practise regularly for a few minutes every day.
The inside of the booklet contains the tables. Below each set are three stars. Children can use a pencil to shade each star when you (parent/carer) feel they can:
Bronze Star: complete a multiplication table without error, eg. one times three is three, two times three is six… and so on to twelve.
Silver Star: answer random multiplication questions, eg. provide the multiplication facts when only given the answer. What is fiive times five? What are two fives. What are eleven fives?
Gold Star: provide multiplication facts when only given the answer, eg. if the answer is 66 what could the questions be? 11 x 6 or 6 x 11. For able children this should be extended, (eg. starting with…if the answer is 45, what is the question?) Able children should also recall that 45 ÷ 5 = 9 and 45 ÷ 9 = 5.
It is not intended to be a sequential challenge; a child can choose whatever level they feel comfortable with.
Certificates will be available for teachers to issue for bronze, silver and gold stars.
Please also remind your child that they should only ask their teacher to ‘test’ them when it’s appropriate during a mathematics lesson.
